Parenting 101

So I called my mom today for parenting advice. Its not often I ask, and not often that my mom gives without me asking. But I have a problem, and I don't know how to fix it.

Question: "How do I teach my child to not talk to me (or any other adult) disrespectfully?" He doesn't say things out of meanness. Its the way in which he says things.

Mom (as she laughs): I don't know.

Well, not the answer I really wanted, but atleast I'm not the only one that doesn't have a clue. Mason talks to me as if he is an adult. He also does this with other authoritive adults in his life. I've tried many techniques...some of which I can't publicize. But nothing seems to work. I don't want his teacher or anyone else to think that we condone this type of behavior. I work really hard to keep my cool while I'm talking to him, especially after he is disrespectful.

Any advice welcome! I'm going to real on-line to see what I can find. Ugh! These children should have come with manuals!
